Negre Marron Records
Founded in 2018 in New York City by René Guemps, Negre Marron Records—pronounced "Nèɡʁ Marron Records," also known as Nèg Mawon or NMRS—is an independent, experimental netlabel championing emerging Haitian musicians aged 18-35.
Musical Style and Genres
NMRS specializes in Kompa and Beat (K&B), a vibrant hybrid sub-genre of Kompa originating from Haiti. This signature sound fuses:
- Kompa, Rara, and Haitian Folklore
- Zouk, Afro-Beats, Afro-Pop, and Gospel
- Pop, Rock, Funk, Hip Hop, R&B, and Reggae
- Country, Latin Ballads, and Electronic Dance Music
Tracks are sung in Haitian French-Creole, Crenglish, Franglish, FranSpañol, and CreoSpañol, with a female-centric focus on Rap Kreyol, Ragga, French R&B, Raggaeton, and Afro-Beat Techno.
